Open your bank or UPI app → Freeze account / Block UPI. Stops any further debit immediately — no phone call needed.
Go to cybercrime.gov.in and file a complaint now. Banks and police accept this as an official record.
Screenshot every transaction SMS, UPI receipt, chat message, and the fraudster’s contact details before they can be deleted.
Email or use the bank’s official in-app chat. State the amount, time, and transaction ID. Creates a timestamped record even if the line is busy.
Use cybercrime.gov.in or email your bank’s official fraud address. No voice call required for a valid complaint.

Creates a formal record with the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. Strongly recommended before approaching your bank or police.
- Click Report Cyber Crime → Financial Fraud
- Enter registered mobile number for OTP verification
- Select: Online Financial Fraud and appropriate sub-category
- Enter all transaction details using the data shown above

- Submit and screenshot the Acknowledgement Number
📄 FIR COMPLAINT DRAFT

Deadlines you must not miss. Your legal rights depend on these dates.
File at cybercrime.gov.in. Save the acknowledgement number — it is your reference for all follow-up with the bank, police, and portal support.
Call your bank. Confirm fraud complaint is registered. Request acknowledgement by SMS or email. If not received, visit the branch.
No written response from bank? Escalate to the bank Nodal Officer in writing. Find contact on the official bank website under "Grievance Redressal".
RBI guidelines set a general expectation for banks to respond; timelines vary by case. If you have not had a resolution after 30 days, escalate to the RBI Banking Ombudsman: cms.rbi.org.in — free, online, no lawyer needed.
For losses above ₹1 lakh: Consumer Forum. Above ₹10 lakh: consult a cyber law attorney. Free legal aid: State Legal Services Authority (SLSA). RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in.
ℹ️ HONEST EXPECTATIONS — WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
- 1930 Helpline: Flags the beneficiary account for freeze. Does not automatically guarantee a refund or involve police.
- Bank complaint: Bank investigates whether the transaction was authorised. Takes 30–90 days. Refund is not automatic — you must follow up.
- Cybercrime portal: Creates a digital record forwarded to your state cyber cell. They may contact you before registering an FIR.
- Police FIR: Starts criminal investigation. Needed for insurance claims and bank disputes.
- Recovery: Highest chance if in golden hour with known UTR. Investment scams older than a week have lower recovery probability — focus on the legal route.
